Principals to offshoot consumer culture

1. don't buy new products of any kind (from stores, web sites, etc.)
2. borrow or buy used.
3. purchase exceptions include: hygiene products, utilitarian services, recreational services, charitable contributions, plants and cut flowers, Art supplies, medicines, video rentals and downloadable music files...

Essentially use the "fair and reasonable person" standard -- i.e., you'll know in your heart when you're rationalizing a violation. Also purchase items you know consider social and environmental causes.
