Week 6/ Final Week - Verduzco

Week 6
Be Green Challenge
ASA 141
Alejandra Verduzco

As this challenge is slowly coming to an end I am proud to announce that I did not spend a single dollar on any things that weren't necessary. However, it's not that huge of an accomplishment considering I never really spent much money before this challenge anyway. But still glad that I didn't give in to even the slightest temptation. I know for sure that I will continue to not spend much money on clothing considering I know how to budget myself and don't give into the fast fashion consumer industry. However, I am excited for summer to begin where I will be going to Mexico and will buy hand made clothing from little vendors.  All the readings from the past weeks go to show just why many people give into fast fashion industries. The fashion system is corrupted and manipulating. Society makes it seem that we women need to look a certain way in order to be considered beautiful. This can be seen from last weeks reading of Race and Beauty and what the USA is considered beautiful in models. This causes many women to shop very often at places that sell the latest trend which is often fast fashion companies such as Forever 21. Which then leads them to contribute to the horrific event of labor workers and conditions. The whole this is a chain of events that is hard to break. The advertisements and magazines set standards for women to reach causing many women to spend so much money on unnecessary clothing and products. However, once women realize they don't need to stay on trend or need to fit into the standard of beauty set by society, consumerism and sustainability will change. With summer coming around the corner I decided to look up an article for ways to save money on vacation trips. This will be a much-needed tip for everyone in this class since we all wish to spend with an excuse for summer and traveling. The article gives suggestions such as save money little by little head of time, always ask for coupons or discount offers for tourists, free continental breakfast or dining, and many more options. I will be sure to keep this article in mind when traveling this summer.
