I haven’t had much of a problem with this challenge this week I needed to get some basic toiletries like toothpaste and facewash. I was able to get in and out of Target with the basic things I needed which is pretty impressive on my part because I love roaming through Target and looking at things. I was invited to go out with some friends this weekend and I noticed that a lot of people were wearing their stoles, some were from their sorority or fraternity, others were of their degree, school, or ethnicity. In the reading that we were assigned this week by Ava L. McCall in, “Speaking Through Cloth” she shines a light on the Hmong women and their fine work of paj ntaubthat is an intricate and unique textile art that was able to tell stories about the people wearing the design and of life and society. Since graduation is coming up I was thinking how the graduation cap and stole are reflections and stories of the students whether it be where they came from or what they’re interested in, it tells a story about the person wearing the piece. I was looking through my email and saw that the school was doing a contest for a chance to win a prize by designing grad caps and voting on the best one. I feel through this contest it allows people to express who they are, their experiences and creativity. With this, the question I want to pose is do you think that the contest affects ways that caps can show experiences and stories?
